Michele was out with Colin and Linda looking at houses and different area's of Girne.

We visited our site to see what progress had been made, they intend to complete all the houses together so at times when we visit we don't see much difference. But dare I tempt fate by saying that I am confident it will be completed on time or near enough

A really good day, we had breakfast on the balcony and just stayed there reading our books. Andre and Dawn came over in the afternoon for tea and sandwiches

Another visit to our site today, we take soft drinks for the workers who are mainly from the mainland (Turkey) they really appreciate it. they live on site in their own little building. On some sites, workers live in the house they are building. We later met up with Colin and Linda at the Manolya Hotel pool had a swim and spoke with them re their house hunting but it is early days yet and I know that they will not rush into anything. Arranged to meet up with them tonight at Boaters then an Indian meal at East meets West just behind the harbour, the food here is excellent.

Today went for a drive heading westwards round the coast, there are some really lovely coves on that route. We stopped at one just past Horseshoe beach for a for paddle.

Went for a drive today down south, visited Limassol and Pafos and of course stopping at the proper golf courses. No pictures something wrong with my camera.

Colin and Linda who have now decided on a property to buy came with us to Lefkosa, we took them on our tourist route and had lunch in the town centre.

Today is our 25th wedding anniversary. We have been so busy over the last year, with planning our move here to want to arrange anything special, but may go for a short holiday later perhaps. We started the day with a full English breakfast then relaxed a while on the balcony reading books.

Later in the day we met up with Colin and Linda at the Manolya pool for a swim then went with them to see the site on which their house is being built in Lapta. It has magnificent views over the Med and is due for completion in September 2005

We returned to the Manolya and had a drink with them, Ercument who works there heard it was our anniversary and bought us a drink, by the time we left Michele had to drive. We stopped on the way home for a nice meal. All in all it turned out to be a memorable day. Here's to the next 25 years Shell.

Played golf today 'The Colony' competition sponsored by one of the biggest hotels in Girne, but did not play well, it was a pairs competition and we expected to do well. The rest of the day was spent at home.

Early rise today wanted to get down to the bank early and not queue too long, on the way back I met Alexander our Russian neighbour who teaches and spends most of his time in Famagusta.

In the evening I went along to one of the restaurants to meet 'Errol' who is a musician, I had booked him for the golf function on Sunday and needed to confirm times.etc

Visited the site today and met Hassan and his family, they are Cypriots but live in London. They have a house just at the entrance to our site which they visit regularly. We were invited in for tea and stayed for about 2 hrs. They are a lovely family, Hassan is very proud of his garden which although not large has many fruit trees, we picked some lemons which Michele will use to make some curd.

Partnered Rev at the golf today betterball competition we came 2nd. Tonight is the golf dinner dance but we are unable to be there. Colin and Linda return home tomorrow 02.30am and we have arranged to eat at the Ambiance and then take them to the airport. The meal and the setting was really good although the service not too hot but it's early days.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID :) When I woke up this morning I could see the Turkish coastline which is approx 40 miles away. Paul, our IT guru, came round later and we worked on the web page whilst Michele made lemon curd for Hassan.

Late afternoon we went for a drive, I suddenly stopped when I saw something in the middle of the road, at first I thought it was a kids toy as it was completely still. However it was a chameleon, we left the car where it was and stayed until it moved very slowly to safety in someone's garden. Luckily my camera was at hand to take these pictures. Note how it changes its colour to blend into the environment it moves to.

Another day on the course and played well. Most golf days are a 6am or 6.30am meet to drive to the course, I am usually home for about 1130am. Plenty of time left in the day to spend with Michele.

When I got home today we relaxed a while then a quick visit to our site. later that night Michele drove me to Billy's Bar to watch the Celtic vs. Barcelona match which my mate 9.2 John (who lives in Scotland and is a Celtic fan) calls 'The return of the Prodigal son' I wonder what his thoughts were when Henrik scored the 3rd

The electric bill arrived today £8.22 seem to be getting them every 2 month. Visited the site again today and had tea with Hassan and his family. Site manager states house should be ready in May.

Played golf with Rev we played well and enjoyed the game. Last year my brother's brother-in-law who is with the RAF in S.Cyprus told me that his friends Tony and his wife Alison had bought a house in the north so we made contact via e mail and have kept in touch. He is over this week to check on his finished property in Alsancak. We met up this evening for a chat at Cider mans, had Pizza and a couple of beers.

A lazy day then in the evening it was drinks at Boaters with John and Christine and a meal at East meets West.

Spent most of the morning in the flat doing a little reading, In the afternoon we took a walk down the old harbour then back home to watch Arsenal vs.Bolton which I enjoyed whilst Michele got some sun and relaxed. She later complained of a sore head

Not a good nights sleep, Michele's headache wouldn't go away gave her a couple of paracetamols before I left for the golf. Today was the Pegasos Trophy at the golf club followed by free drinks and barbeque at the Pegasos at 3pm. Thank you Veli (owner of the Pegasos). I thought I would get a result today but was 6 over after 4 holes pulled back though and finished with a net 70 went up due to that now playing off 13

I returned home to shower and collect Michele with the intentions of spending the afternoon at the Pegasos but discovered that the headaches she had last night was the early signs of the virus that is doing the rounds. I had it about 5 weeks ago. She was really quite bad and could not get out of bed. I went up to the Pegasos and stayed for about 30 mins before returning home

Stayed at home with Michele. I visited the local pharmacist and got Michele some Tetra which is an antibiotic

Played golf today, no, not Rev but some of the other guys, about 10 of us, we threw in 5 million TL each about £2 I got beat on a count back and had to hand over the winnings. Back home Michele still in bed. Not much you can do when someone has this virus, best thing is just to make them stay in bed, mind you that's all they want to do anyway

Played golf with Rev, we have decided to play match play from now on, get us more competitive, the lucky beggar beat me at the last. We both played really well. I returned home to find Michele not yet better but wanting to go for a drive, I thinks she is getting bored with bed.

We went for a drive north on the new coast road, you can only get so far but each couple of days they open up another stretch. Today we got as far as the turn off for Kaplica on the left or right to Gecitkale we decided on Kaplica there were lovely little deserted beaches on the way and we always carry our swimming kit in the car,Michele was keen to have a swim, however I didn't think she was well enough yet. In Kaplica all the village women were waiting with buckets outside the mosque for the milkman to deliver his pinta's

When we got home it was straight to bed for Michele I hope the trip out would not hinder her recovery

Michele a little better today, so we think a little fresh air again, we visited the police HQ in Girne to start our application for temporary residency. They looked at our passports and gave us a note to take to the hospital where we would get an appointment for HIV tests. The policeman told us he thought there were too many English coming over and it is affecting the utilities such as water and electric, saying it cannot cope with the demand, however the government are currently looking at ways to slow down the input of foreigners so we will see what happens. Michele getting a little shaky so we returned home, the hospital can wait till a later date

Leaving Michele at home I went to our friends Colin and Linda's site in Lapta to take pictures of anything that may have happened on their plot, not a lot, I will mail him the pic later

I have been preparing all my own food whilst Michele has been unwell, you know the score, crisps biscuits anything that you can eat without cooking so I decided to night I would drive down to Ezic (only a 2 min drive)and get a take away take away, chicken, chips, salad, rice, 2 rolls and a bottle of beer. I think I was ripped off it cost me £3.17 (LOL)

An early start, playing golf with Rev finished all square, it was a good game. When I returned home Michele was still unwell. Now we are thinking if she is not better by Friday then a visit to the doctors is on the cards

I now have the take away bug I went to Cider Mans on the Lapta road for another take away dinner this time Pizza, coleslaw and garlic bread. This looking after yourself is quite easy.

Awoke early this morning 4am, (it may be all the take aways) I decided to get up and to a house clean and balcony sweep whilst it was nice and cool. Back to bed at 0720 then up at 0915. Michele a little better but still a bit shaky.

Spent the day at home and watch Chelsea vs. M/boro 1-0 then straight after Man U vs. Spurs 1-0 only 2 goals in 3hrs of football, I though that if I was back in the UK in weather like this I certainly wouldn't be watching football. Anyway all that excitement tired me out and we had an early night

Played golf with Rev won on the last. Then home and worked on the web page. At night I went to Ezic for another take away, this time Michele said she would have some, Chicken burger with chips, Chicken stroganoff with chips, rice and veg for Michele, 2 rolls, a slice of gateau and 2 beers £8.73. However Michele couldn't eat anything so I finished her chips and will reheat the Chicken stroganoff for my dinner tomorrow.

Michele starting to feel a little better, so we decided for a drive to the site and see what has been done. We had a soft drink and some cake with Hassan his wife and daughter Neshe, (neighbours at our new site) they return to London on Sunday and will come back about June

Played golf today, September medal won it with a 66 and that is with dropping 5 shots on the last 3 holes. Michele much improved, we visited the Pegasos for lunch as I fancied some nice egg and chips, although Michele said she was not hungry she managed a few of my chips. We then walked round town to give her some exercise and then back to the flat. I watched Man U slaughter Fenerbahce 6-2 I thought Rooney was very good.

A trip to lefkosa today for the next step in our residency application, we have to visit the hospital and hand over the forms that we were given by the police in Girne to arrange blood tests and chest x rays, we were only there for a matter of minutes, we were given an appointment for the 18th October to have the test cost =£160 each.

Whilst in Lefkosa we visited the "Cyprus Today" office (expats newspaper) and handed over Colin and Linda's subscription fee, they should now get a regular copy sent to them in Dunfermline Scotland. We then checked out the ten-pin which is located upstairs in the Astro supermarket, only 2 lanes but it looks ok for a visit sometime in the near future. When we returned to Girne we had a quick stop at the Wednesday market and bought our usual bag of oranges, 36 in this bag for 3 million TL which is £1.10. Anybody know of any good orange recipes?

Michele baking a cake today but the icing sugar we bought was actually cornflour. Have to remember our Turkish-English pocket dictionary in future

Rev, my regular golfing partner had invited me to play in the South at Dekelia where he is also a member. It is a British Army base. The course again has browns but in much better condition than ours, it was similar to playing on greens. It was a good course and not unlike may courses in the UK apart from the obvious, yes, the weather. it was bloody hot, with it being a hilly course and silly me still carrying my bag I can tell you that by the time we were finished I was bushed.

We retuned using the Famagusta border checkpoint as Rev had to do a shop at one of the supermarkets there, before the borders opened up it was the one that most ex pats used before the shops in the North became well stocked. In these days they could get access to that area by applying for a one day pass as it was British territory. It stocks very good sausages and also got my hands on lurpack butter, scotch pies and nice ham, this will earn me brownie points I think.

When I got home Michele had told me that the microphone for the laptop was not working, we have joined a software facility called Skype which allows you to speak via your computer to another person via their computer it is like they were in the same room. They also have a facility that allows you to dial a land line in the UK for 1pence per minute, makes us wonder if we will need to get a phone when the house is ready. Anyway we went out to get another microphone and as we always carry our swimming kit in the car we decided to visit the Manolya have a swim and have a chat with Mehmet.
